Coal Miners Ball
Po Box 157 Sutton, Alaska 99674
SAC and the Alpine Historical Society ( AHS ) cooperatively sponsor the Coal Miner’s Ball.
Sutton Activity Coordination Board (SAC) plans and conducts community activities and events involving people in the community focusing on youth.
Alpine Historical Society (AHS) maintains the local historical park honoring the communities coal mining history, Glenn Highway, and Athabascan Culture.
The community’s main fund raiser each year is the annual Coal Miner’s Ball. People from all over the state come to visit with old-timers who worked or provided goods and services for the coal mines in Sutton and Chickaloon. Each year new honorees are inducted into the Old Timer’s Hall of Fame and their photo and biography are added to the permanent display at the Alpine Historical Park.
Annually, on the last Saturday of April, a ceremony honoring the new inductees is held at the Alpine Inn in Sutton. There is food, music, local entertainment, dancing and door prizes throughout the evening. SAC and AHS provide everything for the evening.
The money earned at this event is used to fund ativities for our residents and maintain our Historical Park
